We, at Col (Dr) Rana.K.Chengappa, believe in providing the best physiotherapy services to all our patients. This year, we plan to benefit all our patients by providing a world-class gait analysis facility at Col (Dr) Rana.k.Chengappa.

What is a gait analysis?

It is a specialized technique which analyses how our body moves and identifies the cause of pain, musculoskeletal weakness or joint deformity in a patient.

The information from a gait analysis not only gives us insight into how to treat a current injury but also helps us find ways to prevent injuries in the future.

Who needs a gait analysis?

  • Any patient with a disturbed walking pattern, whether it is due to knee pain, hip pain, flat feet etc. needs a walking gait analysis to identify the cause of the problem.

  • Recreational, professional runners & other athletes need a running gait analysis to prevent running-related injuries like Runner’s knee, IT Band syndrome etc.

What happens during a gait analysis?

  • MOTION CAPTURE: During gait analysis, the patient is asked to walk or the run while their motion is recorded by high-speed video cameras from different views.

  • ANALYSIS: Our experts then analyze this recorded motion using a gait analysis software, GaitON. During this process, we assess the pelvis, hip, knee, foot movement of the patient & pin-point any abnormality in the body motion that is leading to joint pain or injury.

In the case of athletes, gait analysis helps us identify bad movement patterns (biomechanical faults) in the running motion of the athlete. These faults (including excessive foot pronation, pelvic drop etc.) not only put the athlete at a risk of injuries, but also increase the energy expenditure of the athlete, leading to reduced stamina and performance.

  • TREATMENT PLANS: The results of the gait analysis are then correlated with a thorough physical examination and a customized treatment plan is provided to the patient in form of exercises, corrective orthotics et
